Consent Education: An Intervention for Global Sexual Violence

1

Comprehensive

Consent and education needs to go beyond "no means no." What does consent look like online, with family and friends, and in the workplace? As children get older, they can learn about comprehensive consent and sexuality, which is inclusive of different sexual identities.

2

Consistent

Age-appropriate consent education should start with young children and build as they grow. Bodily autonomy, consent, and boundaries can be consistently taught in primary/elementary school, whereas healthy relationships, safe consensual sex, and violence prevention can be taught in high school.

3

Global

Education is a human right. Consent and bodily autonomy education is therefore something every child deserves to learn. When children know the language and principles behind respect for themselves and others they can advocate for their safety and contribute to the safety of their communities.
